The russian won convincingly today in the David Lloyd Club Turó against the spaniard María José Martínez (60 and 62)

Maria Kirilenko was proclaimed champion of Barcelona KIA'08 after defeating Maria José Martinez in the final contested today. The Russian proved her condition of favorite with a show of force and won the title of the International Championships of Feminine Tennis 60 and 62.

Kirilenko, who came to Barcelona KIA'08 as 23 in the world and second-seed in the tournament, showed from the start of the game her intention to triumph with long, aggressuve strokes that created many problems for Maria Jose Martinez. "My tactic was always to seek her right. The final was easier than I thought because she committed many errors, probably because of nerves”, explained the player Moscow. Her opponent confirmed: "I paid the price for the nervousness of my first final" Martinez acknowledged, "but thank all those who have been with me and have supported me, and the organization, Arantxa and Jose Luis Rivera, for giving me this wild card and making this week of tennis possible”.

The winner demonstrated her happiness for her fourth title on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, after winning in Beijing, Kolkata and, this year, Estoril. "I am very happy" pointed out Kirilenko "because it is my second title on clay. It’s a shame that the season is finished now on this surface. I thank all the sponsors, the organization and the people that have accompanied me, and I hope to come back next year to the Barcelona KIA".

Maria Kirilenko joins the list of winners of Barcelona KIA, including Meghann Shaughnessy, Tathiana Garbin, Katerina Bohmova, Laura Pous and Marta Fraga.
