Kirilenko will play in Barcelona KIA’08

The Russian player, currently ranked 27, will compete for the title against the Spanish number 1, Anabel Medina, and the last winner of the tournament, Meghann Shaughnessy.

RM Comunicación Integral, May, 6; María Kirilenko will try to win Barcelona KIA’08 and continue to add to her long list of successes achieved in the last years. Recently, she became the first Russian to win the Esteril tournament, beating the Czech Iveta Benesova, proving that she is in a rich moment of form. It was the third singles title of 21 year old Kirilenko's career. Her coach is the Dutchman, Eric van Harpen.

The right handed Russian player is great friends with María Sharapova. Even though she didn't win the tournament, she shot to fame in the 2006 Australian open when she wore Adidas equipment personally designed for her by Stella McCartney.

In Barcelona KIA'08, Kirilenko faces the competition of the last winner, Meghann Shaughnessy, and the top ranked Spanish player, Anabel Medina, who has progressed to 32 in the world rankings and has 7 titles on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour circuit.

Other players taking part in Barcelona KIA'08 are the 31 ranked Slavic, Dominika Cibulkova, the 33 ranked French player, Alize Cornet, the Italian,, Karin Knapp, ranked 40, and the Ukrainian, Julia Vakulenko, currently ranked 41 and in the process of obtaining Spanish nationality.

As well as Medina, the tournament sporting director, Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, has confirmed the participation of some of the brightest talents of Spanish feminine tennis, like Nuria Llagostera, Carla Suárez, Virginia Ruano and Lourdes Domínguez.
