The North American, Meghann Shaughnessy, will defend her title in BCN KIA'08
The Arizonian player, winner of the last year’s tournament, is one of the major veterans of the feminine circuit with 6 individual titles and 15 double titles to her name.
RM Comunicación Integral, 24 April 2008.- The North American Meghann Shaughnessy, currently ranked 62 in the world, will defend in Barcelona KIA'08 the title she won last year after beating the Romanian Edina Gallovits in the final 6-3 6-2. The north American joins the list of confirmed players, Maria Kirilenko, currently ranked 27 in the world and the winner of last weeks Estoril tournament, Anabel Medina (32), Julia Vakulenko (41) and Emilie Loit (94).
At 29, Shaughnessy is considered one of the best veterans if the circuit. She has 6 titles from the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour and in 2001 climbed to the eleventh place in the world rankings, after being quarterfinalist in the Australian Open (2003) and reaching the last 16 in the other Grand Slams (Roland Garros, Wimbledon y US Open).
In addition, Meghann Shaughnessy has a prolific doubles career. In 2004, with her partner Nadia Petrova, she ranked fourth in the world, after winning the Miami, Berlin, Rome and Moscow tournaments and, above all, the Masters Cup at the end of the season.
