Anabel Medina to compete at BCN KIA´08

The Spanish number one is added to a draw that will match her against some of the world’s best current players. International appearances are sure to make Barcelona KIA´08, which is part of the WTA circuit, a great sporting event.

The number one Spanish women’s tennis player, Anabel Medina Garrigues is to fight for the title at Barcelona KIA´08. At 25 years and with seven Sony Ericsson WTA Tour titles to her name, Medina joins the other players already confirmed for Barcelona KIA’, 08, such as Maria Kirilenko, with a WTA ranking of 32, Julia Vakulenko (41), or Emilie Loit (94).

Todas ellas ofrecerán al público que asistirá a este torneo, considerado como los Campeonatos Internacionales de Tenis Femenino de España y que tendrán lugar del 7 al 15 de junio en el David Lloyd Clud Turó, el gran espectáculo del tenis de elite.

All of them are expected to put on a great show for those of the public that attend the David Lloyd Clud Turó between 7th and 15th of June.

Anabel Medina is placed 33rd in the Sony Ericsson WTA rankings and rated number one in Spain. At 1.69 metres tall and weighing 59 Kg, the double-backhanded right-hander from Valencian finished a great season last year, reaching the final eight at Roland Garros, and winning the title en Strasbourg after beating local star Amalie Mauresmo.

This season saw Medina with 13 victories and nine defeats, also reaching the final eight at Amelia Island, Indian Wells and Doha. Next summer she will head the Spanish team at the Olympics Games in Bejiing, competing in the singles and doubles competitions along with her partner Virginia Ruano.
