Barcelona KIA’08 will have world television coverage
The number one women’s tennis tournament in Spain to be seen on major sports channels.
RM Comunicación Integral, 19 March 2008 - Barcelona KIA’08 will be the only tournament of its category, Tier IV of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, broadcast by television and with rights for the entire world. The organization of the WOMEN’S INTERNATIONAL TENIS CHAMPIONSHIP OF SPAIN reached an agreement with the company IEC in Sports for the sale of television rights for the next three years of the Barcelona KIA tournament. “For the second consecutive year we will be the only Tier IV tournament with world television coverage, but this agreement is more than that because it crucially strengthens the reach of the tournament, and thus, guarantees a global audience” explained tournament director, José Luis Rivera.
Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, Director of Sport, pointed out that the sale of the international television rights will be a factor that will increase the attraction of Barcelona KIA’08 and contribute to its consolidation: “The fact that we have international impact will help this event become more attractive for both players and spectators, allowing us to present a tournament of greater sporting level.”
The agreement reached between Barcelona KIA and International Events and Communication in Sports takes effect from the next edition, which will take place in the David Lloyd Club Turó in Barcelona from 7 - 15 of June and lasts until 2010. IEC in Sports gains the right to distribute live and recorded broadcasts of the matches outside of Spain, as well as distribute news and clips internationally. They will show a minimum of seven singles matches from each of the tournaments, including the two semi-finals and the final.
