THE TOURNAMENT – Welcome letter

Once again it is an honour and a pleasure to welcome you all to Barcelona KIA’08 on behalf of both the organization and myself from our new venue, the David Lloyd Tennis Club Turó. This year marks a new and important step in our ambitious project of creating a women´s tennis tournament of the highest level possible, and one that will serve to help all promising young Spanish and international players to get on court and make themselves known.
Women’s tennis has progressed enormously since its beginnings, however there still remains work to be done. It is my intention, and that of the organization of Barcelona KIA’08 to maintain this pace in order to stimulate Spanish and international sport still further. The tournament is a personal project that I support 100 per cent, and one that we have installed much hope and hard work. Currently Barcelona KIA’08 is the only of its kind in Spain and we would like to see it grow as much as possible. My dream, our dream is that in some years it will become the benchmark of women’s world tennis.
I don’t want to say goodbye without offering my greatest appreciation to all those that support Barcelona KIA’08: Generalitat de Catalunya, Ajuntament de Barcelona, la Fundación ‘Deporte Joven’ del Consejo Superior de Deportes, la Real Federación Española de Tenis, la Federació Catalana de Tennis as well as our new sponsors, to the media, and especially to the public who plan to attend David Lloyd Tennis Club Turó.
I am sure that Barcelona KIA’08 will be both a success, and a great show.
